My mamasita just called to tell me that she was the victim of a racial hate phone call.
Mama: Hija que crees que me acaba de pasar?
Me: Que Ma?
Mama: Pues estaba aquí tu Tia y se fue porque dijo que me iba a dejar descansar.
Me: Uh hmm
Mama: Sono el telefono y dije pues quien podria ser? Todos saben que diario me acuesto a dormir un ratito a esta hora.
Me: Uh hmm (patiently waiting for the point of the story)
Mama: Bueno y sono y lo conteste y dije – Jalo (that’s how she says Hello with her accent) y me dijeron “Are you white?” y yo les conteste “are you white?” y me dijeron – “You stupid Mexican bitch”.
Me: Whatttttt?
Mama: aja

Me:
Mama: Apenas se puede creer. Quien sabe quien seria.
Me: (an attempt to make a joke) pues ya se estaban tardando.
Mama:
Me: It was a joke Mom. I’m sorry.
Mama: Bueno me voy a acostar a dormir.
Me: I love you mom, take your phone off the hook.
And for the love of Pete get some damn caller id so I can call these mothers back. I’ll say “Are you ignorant?” well then your mama is. When all else fails the “your mama” come backs always work.
My mom is 4’2” (exaggerating), she is a little woman. My friends and I used to make fun of her and by make fun of I mean we’d laugh and point (just kidding Martha) anyway, we had a little joke. We’d say this is your mom carrying a pea and then put our hands out in front of us as though we were carrying something very heavy. She’s little.
Why are you picking on my mom? I’m sorry if Mexican’s make you so angry. You can call her Mexican all you’d like it doesn’t offend her because that she is. She is by no means stupid or a bitch. She’s a Mexican U.S. Citizen who pays taxes just like you. Well actually she’s probably paid more taxes and paid them longer than you. Are you mad because she’s worked harder than you have or ever will? Or are you mad because you’re on welfare and she’s not? Maybe you’re mad because her kids are all successful and by successful I mean loving, giving adults who speak two languages and have more going for them than you ever will? She’s molded her children to love all and not pick and choose races because of language or color. Don’t be upset. You can change. Maybe you can go to school and get an education. You can learn all about our culture. I can teach you if you’d
like.
Next time call someone else. Someone bigger than you. Someone who will teach your ignorant ass a lesson or two in how to talk to people. You’re not only ignorant but a coward, a coward who chose the phone to promote their stupidity.

What I feel right now while reading this is exactly how I felt when my mother and I were at Michaels and she was looking for some thread for her "project" =) I left her for a moment when I heard "DO YOU WANT THIS KIND OF THREAD" a small pause and a "I KIND UNDERSTAND YOU. YOU HAVE A HEAVY ACCENT!". Immediately I knew that "it" was referring to my mother. I whipped around that corener, only to find this "girl" standing next to my mother and speaking to her as if she was speaking to some child and for me to hear her aisles down was one of her biggests mistakes. My short tempered self could only say at the moment, "She's not deaf you know" and I proceeded to ask my mother (in english, just to prove to the bitch that my mother could communicate and understand) what it was she was asking her. Then all of a sudden the bitch knew exactly what my mother needed.
This only made me think what my mother goes through when she out alone. (made me only worry more).
The girl didn't hear the end of it from me. All the way back to her register and in front of other customers I tore a new one on her.
My mother was very upset at me for my behavior. (not too many mexicans like to stir shit up)~GA

For as much as decent hard-working people want to get away from stupid people like that, it is very hard because they are everywhere and from every color, including some Mexicans who think they are better than their co-nationals-(Those who claim to have Spanish blood in them)
Anyways, sometimes you just have to ignore it, unless you actually want to kick some ass.
